Hi all,

With some design updates we're thinking/working through, we're looking to find some icons for many of the common aspects of the game. I've put together a list of things we don't yet have icons for. If you have a few minutes help us find a few we'd appreciate it! :)

What we're looking for is transparent or translucent images (.gif or .png, typically) that are 16x16.

hmm, buy an icon library, maybe? i don't really know where to look, well, i have a vague recollection of websites that provided some for use without royalties.

I would suggest linking to icons that are already 16x16 KJ. :)

Rescaling images that size aren't gonna look much chop.

Also, finding an array of tech icons that wide and varied is going to be very hard work. Suggest a colour theme and maybe use the three letter abbreviations everyone always uses for these techs (eg BUS, RES, IND, MED etc). Might also be a good solution for buildings as well?

I'll have a look around for you, I don't mind buying a few if they aren't too expensive. Are you trying to make the game more appealing to new players?

dagga: ya, that sort of idea would be on the table too for sure and those breakdowns work well if we were to go down that path. ideally we'd get relevant icons for it, but I don't see that being likely for every single one of them. and that's something tavi could maybe whip up on his lunch break some day *looks for tavi*

sean: we don't need to buy anything at this point, we're mainly looking for free stuff. I looked through stuff like the openicon pack before and pulled out a bunch of relevant stuff for things (basically every icon that's in the game now :p)

also we need a chemical symbol rather than a biological symbol for missiles

I would ask about the style. How should they look like ?

16x16 sounds small enough for someone to draw it themselves.

How about a small grey icon, with 2 black letters "CM", "NM" and "EM" in it? :P

In my experience, trawling the web for icons and throwing them together only results in the look of amateur hour. Someone will be able to do it surely!

16x16 is really tiny- not much room for detail, but..

as for missile icons.. I think this would be ideal:
chems: a missile with a biohazard sign
nukes: a missile with a nuclear/radioactive symbol
cruise: just a missile.

consistency is a fluff when you try to do it the internet-clip-art way.. I'm sure what pang has in mind is somebody with real graphical talent to make an icon set for the game.
