so either:
a) i can't type, predictably
b) tags are case-sensitive when joining
c) something is glitching in the tagging mechanism

a) is somewhat unlikely. leaving b) or c) as the option. basically, i try to join a tag (for example, LaF). i typed in "laf" instead, and got an error. i typed in "LaF" and things worked.
i don't recall tags being case-sensitive in the past, so i'm curious if that's the case now, or if this is unintended behavior

haven't been case sensitive as far as i know and weren't when i tagged my ffa restarts or when i tagged my alliance country and both have capped letters in tag.

yeah according to a few other people i've talked with, it's definitely requiring case sensitivity on the tag. it's not *awful* but it's new behavior and hasn't been announced, so it makes a person think that the tag password is what's wrong

i should note that i haven't observed this in ffa, but i also haven't had to retag anything in the last week or so, which is when *i* noticed the tagging issue.

I tagged my FFA restarts 2 days ago and didn't type capped letters in tag and were able to tag up via control panel.

control panel might do things differently too, not sure.

We had some guys have the same problem. The tag pass is case sensitive on the control panel now, not sure if it has always been that way or not.

qz, you can have either upper or lower case in-game, just use lowercase() (or whatever the function is in php) for IRC channel names.

there's a lot of ways around the whole caps thing, as long as the db has it the correct way :P

right GE, but what i meant is if we allowed LaF and laf and LAF and Laf to be different tags, we couldn't have separate news channels in the #alliance.(tag) style

that's kind of contrary to your point though - if only one spelling can exist, then why is there any case sensitivity :p

The issue isn't that anyone want's the possibility of cap sensitivity, it is that there is now cap sensitivity when joining a tag.

So saving the tag in what ever caps is fine but all comparisons of that tag should be done by strtolower($Tag) == strtolower($CompareTag).

I know for a fact and without a doubt that prior to this you guys had it so you could enter a tag in any caps and join the tag, where as as it stands that appears to no longer be the case.

Actual Tag: LaF
Entered Tag: laf or LAF or lAf or what ever
If the password was right join would be successful
Now or at least to complaints I seen

Actual Tag: LaF
Entered Tag: LaF
All other case combinations fail even with the right password.

i don't know what's causing case sensitivity now, qz, but when i tagged in laf with my first country, beginning of alliance set, i typed "laf" because i'm too damn lazy to use the shift key when it's not necessary :P much like i've done for the last ... since the days of e2025.
got killed and restarted, and at that point the tag entry was case sensitive.
something changed after the beginning of this alliance set, before ... oh, last week or so.

I can confirm that this happens at FFA too now, tagged 1 country "normally" and tag needed to be exactly correctly written to be able to tag up.

No idea if FFA control panel has same thing.

Perhaps some server backend stuff got updated, and stuff operations that weren't case sensitive now is?

Yah same thing with country searches, they've never been case sensitive before and are now

names ate too long to type so I use number search.

bit off-topic: same day as this thread got started boxcar couldn't find my FFA countries when used name search but when went to look countries in tag there they were allive and that was fixed next day.

FFA control panel bugs too, if tag has capped letters then capped letters are needed.

everything is still case sensitive and it's annoying. especially country searches, this basically makes them useless
