if 100 per topic then there would be multiple topics from same thing after 1 topic has been filled.

i agree with marshall. pagination helps with server load, and if we put a limit on responses, then there will be multiple threads for the same discussion as i used to be

although server can't handle properly threads with 5 pages since when opens last page which forum shows being 4th then reader will see that there's 5th page too.

thats actually an issue with pagination including deleted posts in the total, thus thinking there should be another page. a few issues like this will be addressed with the new server and merging of forums with ee

If pagination is messing up due to deleted threads, isn't that an easy SQL query fix? (add WHERE deleted = 0 clause or something related)?

Bee: technically yes; though that would make the query slower, as it would not be a pure index search... so in the interest of speed we've left it... i'd have to play with indexing and re-optimize the query
