3 earthquakes in 3 days, each taking out 1000+ buildings isn't funny man, especially at the end of the set. What's the point of earthquakes besides providing misery?

Well, of course they should be removed. The random "busts" (oil fire, striking workers, droughts) have more than offsetting booms. Earthquakes are a unique event that just smash fluff with no possible positives involved. And not only this, but "busts" just cost half a turn production. Earthquakes for a big player can cost hundreds of millions of dollars, and take millions of nw from final scores as well. All that from a random event is ridiculous. It cna change who wins and who loses even. But this is known already.

there's 1 minor positive thing: if eq destroys 100 buildings and player has 120bpt and 20 empty acres then he can build all acres.

I can't read correctly apparently... =/

Earthquakes are fairly small and shouldn't change the win unless you're *extremely* close....

They are not fairly small qzjul. 70k land and you lose 1000 buildings, with the latest building costs that's $291.7k/building, that's $291,700,000. It's also 10 turns not spent cashing which is roughly another $100,000,000 for a casher. Now we're talking 1.5m networth from one earthquake. Should a random event really shave 1.5m net off your final score?

This is the final scores from Primary last set, #1 and #2:
1 LOUD NOISES (#6) 74,620 $140,735,669 RG
2 IveGotAProblemForYourSolution (#155) Game profile 83,343 $138,398,027 DG

One earthquake apart. And what if you suffer two, or three?

You just have no idea qzjul. Last set, I had a 1200a earthquake (out of 70k acres) 5 days from the end of reest, and that is a production loss of:

1200 x 1.86 x 1.58 x 1.35 * 54*5 * 0.6 = 771k NW.
Add about 10% more to account for Indy Booms = 848k NW

If I were to have rebuilt that 1200a, it would have cost:
Construction Cost: 432m dollars
Cashing cost: 2m less over 11 turns = 22m dollars
Total: 454m dollars = 1.73m NW at $262/NW. It's worth more if I use less $/NW.

And that's just 1 earthquake.

The ridiculousness of it is that for it to have been worth rebuilding the acres, there needs to have been about 10 or more days left in the reset when the earthquake occured (more than 550 Primary turns in this example).

So if an earthquake occured in the last 1/6 of the 60 day reset, it just isn't worth rebuilding, it is better to keep as empty acres.

Earthquakes are unbalanced, and there are resets where the finishing NWs between the rank 2 and rank 9 guy is just 9m NW apart.

http://www.earthempires.com/primary/18/ranks

Look at this example, just half a year ago. Every rank is about only 1m apart from each other, and earthquakes are ruining the actual competitive finishes.

This isn't the first time Earthquakes are brought up either.

http://forums.earthempires.com/...-the-point-of-earthquakes

See this about 1 year ago, each earthquake potentially kills 1% of your finishing NW. And that's a lot compared to the other random minor events.

Early to mid set they are small, but they seem to be loaded to the last 5 days somehow. I hardly ever get them until the final days when they aren't worth rebuilding. And they are always massive 1000 acre destroyers. Last set I got obliterated by quakes at the end.

Wonder how many I'll get in the last few days of this set? Luckily cleared today quake free.

Use this

Earthquake Notification Service

The Earthquake Notification Service (ENS) is a free service that sends you automated notification emails when earthquakes happen in your area.

https://sslearthquake.usgs.gov/ens/

Store turns if you need.

in ffa mostly my farmers have gotten eqs and techers not many and all those i've gotten have been small (~1 turn building).

so are we doing anything about earthquakes?

Either nerf it or make it go away. Over the whole duration of each set, there's bound to be multiple earthquakes. If they happen end of set, they remove up to 1.5-2% of your finishing NW each time it happens. It's too powerful and not necessary.
