When I was 16 my girlfriend went to California on a driving vacation with her folks. I was invited along, but stayed behind to work my summer job.
A drunk driver drove head-on into the family car and her mother was killed immediately.
My girlfriend had it worse. She was burned on over 70% of her body and she experienced incredible pain in her last few hours of life. She died while I was on a flight out to be with her.
It's no surprise that I think drunk driving sux. And yet I have done it myself, and was lucky. I didn't have to be arrested, or wreck a car, or kill a stranger, to learn never to drink and drive. Somehow, I finally 'got it': alcohol makes you stupid. Promise yourself not to drive before you have that first drink. And don't forget that promise after you've had a few.
If you think taking a cab instead of driving is a pain in the ass then just kill yourself now, and save the lives in the cars around you..
There's not much that's more irresponsible than being drunk behind the wheel.
I hope the repercussions of your Saturday night excursion teach your ass some personal responsibility.
